NAPLES, FL – According to Abc-7.com, a traffic collision in Collier County on Sunday, December 30, 2018, put eight people from one family into the hospital, as well as another individual. The collision took place before 10:30 in the morning on the Golden Gate Parkway.
Seven family members were in a minivan that collided with another vehicle in which only the driver was traveling. Police are still working to determine the cause of the crash. The fire department confirmed that children were among those injured.
Everyone involved in the accident was rushed to local hospitals via either ambulance or helicopter.
Three of those injured are trauma patients. The collision shut the roadway down while the investigation was carried out and the scene was cleared.
Car crashes are so common that most people will be involved in around three or four of them throughout their driving years. Fortunately, most crashes cause property damage, but no severe injuries. Still, the damage done by even minor collisions is often costly, and when medical care is required, the costs increase greatly.
In Florida, there were 402,385 vehicle collisions reported in 2017, 254,310 of which led to injuries. Last year, 3,116 people died in car crashes in the Sunshine State.
Of course, your chances of being in a crash can be reduced by maintaining cautious and responsible driving habits. Safe driving means avoiding driving while under the influence of alcohol, prescription drugs, or illegal drugs, never violating the speed limit, and always staying focused on the road. Many severe collisions are the result of a driver simply losing focus for a moment.
