ELTINGVILLE, Staten Island, N.Y. — A National Grid vehicle was involved in a crash in which one person suffered minor injuries. The accident happened in early morning hours in the Eltingville section of Staten Island. The employee went to a local hospital reportedly suffering from minor injuries. Silive.com reported that the investigating officers from the New York City Police Department had not made any arrests relating to the crash. The incident remains under investigation by NYPD.
According to Silive.com and the Staten Island Advance, first responders from the Fire Department of New York raced to a crash reported at 4210 Richmond Avenue around 6:25 p.m. FDNY and New York EMS transported one person who was involved in the crash for treatment at Staten Island University Hospital at Ocean Breeze. There was no information released regarding the nature of the injuries except to say that the injuries appeared to be minor. The condition of that individual is not known at this time.
According to silive.com, the Staten Island Advance first reported that the driver who caused the crash emerged from the demolished National Grid sports utility vehicle. Silive.com retracted that report which the outlet attributed to a witness. A spokesperson from NYPD said that the National Grid vehicle was unoccupied and parked when another vehicle struck it.
Further details about the accident were not forthcoming. NYPD did not offer any additional information about who might have been involved in the crash, how many vehicles were involved beyond the National Grid SUV, and how the accident could have happened. However, photos accompanying the silive.com story depict the National Grid SUV with substantial damage to the rear driver’s quarter as well as the front passenger’s quarter. The SUV appeared to have been parked in the breakdown lane along the right side of the road. Snow appears to be falling in the pictures. Notwithstanding, NYPD did not attribute the accident to the declining weather.
