NYACK, FL – According to dailyvoice.com, a man was arrested after he was allegedly drunk when he caused a car crash in Nyack. The driver was identified as Dennis Morgan, 54, of Naples, Florida.
Police arrived on the scene and said Morgan had been operating one of the vehicles, and that he appeared to be intoxicated. Morgan was arrested, and according to reports, he refused to take a breathalyzer test.
Morgan was then charged with driving while intoxicated.
Safe driving advocates have been fighting to end drunk driving for decades. Fortunately, the number of people who drive drunk and the number of accidents caused by drunk drivers has dropped significantly over the last few decades. However, many people still get behind the wheel after consuming too much alcohol.
In Florida, as in all 50 states, the legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level is set at .08 percent. There are times when someone with a BAC lower than the legal limit might be too impaired to drive safely. Additionally, drivers under the age of 21 are subject to a zero-tolerance policy and can be found guilty of driving under the influence even if they have a BAC of .01 percent.
It is never a good idea for drivers to push the limits and drive even if they think they are below the limit. There are many safer alternatives to drinking and driving, including having a designated driver, taking public transportation, and using rideshare services or taxi cabs. Getting home safely means not taking unnecessary risks.
