WEST HILLS, NY – October 13, 2020 – According to an online news patch.com, at least five individuals have sustained personal injuries in a multi-vehicle accident in West Hills, New York. The accident occurred in the evening hours at approximately 5:30 pm. The news report states that one car was overturned in the accident that occurred on the Jericho Turnpike close to the Brooks Avenue exit.
According to a Facebook post reported on the Patch.com article, the Huntington Community First Aid Squad responded to the accident call at 5:39 pm. In addition to the Huntington Community First Aid Squad, the Suffolk County police and the Huntington Manor Volunteer Fire Department responded to the multi-car accident.
In total, there were eight people involved in the multi-car collision; and emergency medical technicians provided medical treatment to five people who received injuries in the accident. Four of those five injury victims were transported to Huntington Hospital, and the fifth accident victim was brought to the Nassau University Medical Center.
There were no fatalities in the accident, and all of the first responders did not receive any injuries, according to the Huntington Community First Aid Squad’s Facebook post.
The Suffolk Police Emergency Services and Huntington Manor firefighters worked to remove the vehicles and fil over the overturned vehicle using heavy rescue extrication machinery. A second motor vehicle required that a car door be pried open using a hydraulic extrication tool manned by a few Huntington Manor firefighters.
According to the Patch article, the Huntington Community First Aid Squad responded to the accident scene with two paramedic first responder trucks and four Advanced Life Support ambulances. In total, there were 17 Emergency Medical Services technicians at the accident scene, along with about 24 volunteer firefighters, class A fire trucks, and two heavy rescue vehicles. The hydraulic extrication tools were provided by the Suffolk County Police Emergency Services Unit.
