Insurer Ranks Best and Worst Drivers
According to an online article at thestate.com, several Florida cities were listed in the top 50 in Allstate’s Best Drivers Report. The cities with the best drivers include Cape Coral (#10), Port St. Lucie (#14), Tallahassee (#42), and St. Petersburg (#49). Miami barely missed the top 50 coming in at #57. Each Florida city had dropped a few positions from the previous year, except for Miami which moved up from #86 to #57.
The America’s Best Drivers Report bases the rankings on the number of claims that are filed with the insurer, which covers about ten percent of all United States automobile policies. The ranks reflect the following: “hard braking” events that are linked to accidents and the average number of years between filing claims with the insurance company.
The aforementioned Florida cities has drivers who scored excellent in both of these factors. For example, drivers in Cape Coral, Florida, did not file an accident claim an average of 12.2 years as opposed to 10 years which is the national average.
It was also determined that Cape Coral residents slam on their brakes to avoid a crash 20.3 times for every 1,000 miles they travel. The national average is nineteen times every 1,000 miles. In other words, Cape Coral drivers are about average in terms of hard braking statistics. Allstate is able to ascertain the braking history of drivers who utilize the company’s “Drivewise” app that tracks the movement of vehicles. It was found that drivers who do not brake hard as much as others are likely to file fewer damage to property claims, as provided by Allstate.
Among the safest driving cities in the United States, per Allstate, are Brownsville, Texas, Boise, Idaho, Huntsville, Alabama, and Kansas City, Kansas. The worst driving cities were Boston, Los Angeles, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
