Serious accident in Mastic Beach
MASTIC BEACH, Long Island, N.Y. — Suffolk County Police initiated an investigation into a terrifying motor vehicle crash that left four people severely injured including a woman and a two-year-old baby boy. The horrible accident happened around 11:00 a.m. in Mastic Beach at the intersection of Flower Road and Neighborhood Road according to NBC New York. The driver of the car that police suspect caused the violent crash fled from the area. Police have not identified that male to this point. Suffolk Police are continuing their investigation. There was no update on the medical status of any of the people injured in the collision.
Suffolk County Police investigators said that a man driving a white Nissan four-door sedan ignored a stop sign on Flower Road and slammed into a PT Cruiser broadside Wednesday around 11:00 a.m. in a quiet residential neighborhood in Mastic Beach. The violence of the impact flipped the PT Cruiser over more than once, leaving debris strewn about the front yard of a home in which the PT Cruiser stopped on its roof. The Nissan continued into a driveway and struck a Jeep. No one was in the Jeep.
Witnesses who came out of their neighboring homes described the scene. They told NBC New York that a man exited the Nissan holding a baby. One woman said that the child appeared to be limp and was not moving. Another woman in that car was also injured.
Two occupants of the PT Cruiser, a husband and wife, sustained severe injuries as well. One reportedly suffered a collapsed lung and the other sustained broken ribs. Police say that the injuries, although very serious, do not appear to be life-threatening. The man who ran away from the Nissan has not come forward nor had police identified him.
Police asked for the public’s help identifying the fleeing driver, and people living in the vicinity of the crash hope this incident is the wake-up call people need to reduce their speed as they traverse the area.
