According to a news article on gmauthority.com, vehicle safety is one of the top priorities for new and used vehicle purchasers. Modern motor vehicles are a lot safer today due to better build quality and the invention of new safety technologies. Today’s new safety technologies actually help motor vehicles avoid collisions.
The Partnership for Analytics Research in Traffic Safety, a coalition consisting of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and auto manufacturers, discovered that active safety features such as Forward Collision Alerts and Autonomous Emergency Braking drastically reduce the chance of accidents and injuries. One study performed by the Partnership for Analytics Research in Traffic Safety found that active safety technologies can reduce the risk of an accident by 49%, serious crashes by 42%, and lowers the risk of injury in an accident by 53%. Moreover, the study discovered that these technologies performed well in all weather conditions.
To obtain data for this research study, the NHTSA obtained vehicle data for around 47 million motor vehicles from auto manufacturers. The MITRE Corporation also provided data from more than 2.4 million vehicles that were involved in a crash. The study found that about half of the motor vehicles in the dataset were small to midsize passenger cars and SUVs.
