STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Two cars collided on the Staten Island Expressway according to SILIVE.com. One person reportedly sustained a minor injury in the accident. The collision happened in the east lanes of the Staten Island Expressway and was the second crash reported during the morning commute. The accident caused even more significant delays than the typical morning commuting traffic experiences.
SILIVE.com reported that the second of the two Friday morning crashes took place in the area of the Ocean Terrace exit in the eastbound lanes of the Staten Island Expressway. SILIVE.com noted that the Fire Department of New York personnel responded to the accident call. SILIVE.com also noted that FDNY radio transmissions indicated that one of the vehicles involved in the accident was a sedan.
A spokesperson from FDNY told SILIVE.com that one person suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. That individual received an emergency transport to Staten Island University Hospital for treatment. No additional information became available concerning the physical condition of the motorist.
SILIVE.com said that the traffic was backed up from the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge as far back as Exit 8 around 7:45 a.m. That information was provided by Google Maps, according to SILIVE.com.
Also, on Staten Island Friday, a woman driving a Sports Utility Vehicle drove into three parked cars. The SUV flipped over onto the driver’s side, and the driver became trapped within. Surveillance video from a nearby building depicts the vehicle on its side and first responders rushing to the driver’s aid according to SILIVE.com. The accident happened on Merrymount Street in State Island’s New Springville neighborhood. Witnesses say the vehicle’s airbags deployed in the crash. The female driver went to Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze for treatment of minor injuries according to a spokesperson from FDNY. There was no information concerning the cause of the crash.
