Subway Track Beam Impales Windshield
QUEENS, NY – According to Ny.curbed.com, a driver narrowly escaped being impaled in a terrifying accident when a beam from the elevated subway infrastructure dropped and hit a moving vehicle on Roosevelt Avenue.
The wooden beam pierced through the vehicle’s windshield and hit the driver’s passenger seat just a few inches away from the driver.
Images from the accident scene show the large wooden beam sticking through the windshield of the vehicle in what New York City Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer referred to as a “horrifying? Scene.
Bramer is calling for an investigation into how something this dangerous could have taken place, pointing out that someone could have died in the incident and calling on MTA to answer for the “crumbling subway infrastructure.”
MTA says that it is conducting a full investigation into what took place and that it has people looking into the area to ensure that it is safe.
Early investigations indicate the fallen beam was part of an old work platform that was put in place years ago and that the rest of the platform has now been taken apart and removed from the platform. Workers are looking for additional structures that could have been left in place.
The incident is not the only time a piece of debris fell from the subway infrastructure in the city. In Brooklyn, a part of the ceiling caved in a station last June and in September plaster and debris crumbled onto another subway platform.
When accidents such as this lead to fatalities, the city is liable to the family of the victim for their loss. It is important to contact a personal injury attorney to determine the best way to proceed and hold the negligent party responsible for the dangerous situation.
