Serious Auto Accident

MEDFORD, Long Island, N.Y. — A New York State trooper and another person sustained serious injuries in a multi-vehicle car accident in Medford in Suffolk County, Long Island. The accident happened around 8:55 a.m. on Express Drive South at the intersection of County Road 83 in Medford according to the Daily Voice. The evidence from the scene suggested that the trooper, who was driving an unmarked police car, a passenger car, and a passenger bus, were the three vehicles involved in the crash. The trooper and one other person went to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment of their injuries. Although they are expected to survive, there was no additional update on their condition. Police are still trying to determine how the crash happened.

Intersection auto collisions can occur in numerous ways. One of the most common car accidents that happen at an intersection is the T-bone collision. These types of crashes happen when people drive too fast or drive aggressively. They take chances to try to “beat” the light, instead of making sure that the path to cross the intersection is clear. Some estimates suggest that nearly 66% of all traffic fatalities happen as a result of aggressive driving.

Certain behaviors indicate aggressive driving. One of the most common signs of aggressive driving is the driver follows too closely to the person in front. Following too closely is a behavior commonly known as tailgating. Aggressive drivers also change lanes improperly or erratically, and pass or overtake another vehicle when prohibited or in a dangerous manner. Speed changes, and failing to yield the right of way to another motorist, pedestrian, motorcycle rider, or bicycle rider also cause accidents at intersections. Additionally, refusing to obey traffic signals and signs is another indication of an aggressive driver.

Determining fault in an intersection accident is not always easy. Unless unbiased and fully observant witnesses see the crash, there will but no clear-cut evidence of fault because the case will come down to a credibility contest. However, obtaining the police reports, witness statements if any, cell phone records, black-box data recordings from the vehicles involved, and other objective evidence will help prove who is at fault for the crash.
