
Cars collide on Verrazzano-Narrows bridge
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — SILIVE.com reported that a multi-vehicle accident happened on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge during the tail end of the commute. SILIVE.com posted a copy of a Twitter post from Total Traffic NYC indicating that the incident forced the closure of at least two lanes of traffic around 10:15 a.m. The information SILIVE.com attributed to Total Traffic NYC suggests that the accident happened on the lower deck of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge headed eastbound. First responders from the Fire Department of New York responded. One person reportedly suffered an injury. There is no information available concerning the severity of any injuries.
A spokesperson from FDNY told SILIVE.com that FDNY received an emergency call regarding an accident on the Bridge at 9:58 a.m. The spokesperson did not provide information as to how many vehicles collided or how the accident may have occurred. The FDNY spokesperson did inform SILIVE.com that one person received emergency transport via ambulance to Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn. The spokesperson did not provide a report about the condition of that individual or whether the injured was a driver or passenger in the car.
Traffic began to back up on the Bridge as a result closing two of the eastbound lanes. SILIVE.com reported that Google maps showed a backup which the report described as minor. No information was available as to when crews might clean the debris and open the two closed lanes to traffic again.
In other traffic news around Staten Island, commuters should be advised that one lane of travel will be closed to vehicles on the Bayonne Bridge according to SILIVE.com.
