QUEENS, NEW YORK – As reported online by www.nbcnewyork.com, a 67-year-old man sustained fatal injuries, and one person has been arrested following a five-vehicle collision on the Long Island Express.
A rush-hour accident on the Long Island Express in Queens left a 67-year-old man dead and one person arrested following the accident, which involved five vehicles. According to local police, the accident happened when a black Honda SUV traveling eastbound on the Long Island Express veered to the left, rolling over the center divider into the path of four vehicles traveling westbound. The black Honda SUV was struck by the four vehicles near Exit 17, and the vehicle came to a halt while overturned. The accident backed up traffic for miles during rush hour.
The 67-year-old man driving the black Honda SUV sustained severe injuries and was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital. The man did not survive his injuries and passed away while at the hospital. Six occupants of the four other vehicles involved in the accident sustained injuries. Two of these individuals refused medical attention, and the four other individuals were listed as being in stable condition at the hospital.
A 50-year-old man involved in the accident was arrested and charged with knowingly driving on the highway without a license. The man has not been charged with any other crime in relation to the accident, and there are no reports of any other person involved in the accident facing criminal charges. Local police have not identified a cause of this accident, which still may be under investigation.
