
Tragic fatal two vehicle accident
According to an online news article published on the DailyVoice.com, a 49-year-old man lost his life in a two-vehicle accident last Saturday night on Long Island, New York. The news report states that the accident happened at approximately 8:40 p.m., west of Veterans Highway on the eastbound Northern State Parkway in Smithtown, New York.
The report states that the 49-year-old man was from Queens, New York, and he was driving a GMC truck. The man struck the rear, driver’s side area of a Chevrolet driven by a 61-year-old man from Smithtown, New York. After the 49-year-old man hit the Chevrolet, the 49-year-old man lost control of his truck and struck a tree, according to the New York State Police. The 49-year-old Queens man was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where the man passed away due to the severity of his personal injuries, according to police. According to the accident news story, the 61-year-old Smithtown man may not have received any injuries.

In Suffolk County, New York, fatal car accidents have fortunately been trending downward. In 2017, there were over 90 accidents causing 100 fatalities. This is down from the year prior which had over 120 accidents resulting in nearly 140 fatalities. In Nassau County, New York, there were over 65 accidents with over 70 fatalities which is also down from about 70 accidents causing nearly 80 fatalities in 2016. These results were compiled by the Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research, which is a nonprofit partnership between the New York Department of Motor Vehicles and the University at Albany.
