PORT JEFFERSON, NY – September 15, 2020 – According to an online news article posted on Patch.com, a serious head-on collision in Port Jefferson, New York, injured two people and tragically killed another person. The accident occurred on Monday afternoon. A 63-year-old man from Mount Sinai was tragically killed in the collision, according to the news report.
Suffolk County police stated that the 63-year-old victim was operating a Buick westbound along North Country Road. The man attempted to turn left and drive into a parking lot located at 70 North Country Road. However, the man collided with a 2013 Toyota that was heading eastbound. The collision occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m., according to law enforcement. The 63-year-old Mount Sinai man was transported to the John T. Mather Memorial Hospital, which is located across the street from the accident scene. The man was declared dead at the John T. Mather Memorial Hospital. The passenger in the victim’s car was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for medical treatment of non-life-threatening personal injuries. The passenger’s identity was not published.
According to the news report, the Toyota’s driver, a 37-year-old woman from Miller Place, was transported across the street to the John T. Mather Memorial Hospital for treatment of her personal injuries. The woman’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Both motor vehicles involved in the accident were impounded by law enforcement in order to perform safety checks. No criminal charges were filed at this time.
