Fatal Drunk Driving Accident

QUEENS, NEW YORK – A news report on NewsDay.com states that a Queens man has been indicted in the fatal accident that tragically killed a Long Island mother of a 10-year-old girl.  The mother and daughter were The two were headed to pick up the woman’s husband from his job when the accident occurred.  The husband’s workplace was only two blocks from the location of the accident.

The accident was purportedly caused by a drunken driver who has been caught and was charged in the fatal Queens accident that killed a woman and her daughter.  According to law enforcement authorities, the drunk driver was allegedly driving 94 mph at the time of the collision.  The driver is facing a 16-count indictment.

At the time of the accident the driver, a 42-year-old man from Jamaica, Queens, was found to have a blood alcohol concentration of .15 blood alcohol content, which is more than double the legal limit in New York.  The driver’s BAC was released by the Queens County District Attorney’s office in an official news release.

The driver was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on the indictment that includes several criminal charges, including aggravated vehicular homicide, second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, second- and third-degree assault, aggravated driving while intoxicated, endangering the welfare of a child and reckless driving.  The suspect was ordered to be held in jail without bail, the district attorney’s office stated.

The speed limit was 35 mph, but the driver was found to be driving 94 mph “two seconds before crashing into the victim’s car.”

The NYPD noted the driver had bloodshot eyes, and he failed two field sobriety tests before he was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. According to an NYPD media release, the driver stated that he was only driving 50 MPH and that he had a drink from his girlfriend’s cup of vodka and iced tea while they were at the beach.
