PAVILION, New York — A collision between two vehicles sent two people to Strong Memorial Hospital in the western New York town of Pavilion Sunday. The Batavian reported that the accident occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. at the intersection of Routes 63 and 246 in Pavilion. The Genesee County Sheriff’s office sent several deputies to respond to the crash in addition to one superior officer to oversee the investigation. Deputies from the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office’s Crash Management Team will reconstruct the accident if necessary. Preliminarily, the evidence suggests that the crash occurred when one vehicle failed to yield the right of way to another vehicle. There was no indication whether any driver received a citation or was arrested on charges at this time.
The initial reports from the scene of the crash reveal that a 2007 Hyundai Azera driving north on Route 246 collided with a 2019 Ford Expedition sports utility vehicle heading northwesterly on Route 63. Deputies believe the 18-year-old driver of the Hyundai Azera did not yield the right of way to the 2019 Ford Expedition by crossing into the intersection without giving way to the oncoming vehicles.
The Expedition slammed into the Azera. The impact forced the Azera off of the road and onto the shoulder of Route 63. The vehicle then overturned and skidded to a stop in the northwest corner of the intersection. The Expedition continued straight ahead to Route 63 and stopped in the opposite lane of travel.
The 18-year-old driver of the Hyundai from Hilton, New York, and her 19-year-old passenger from Brockport, were hurt in the crash. Mercy EMS transported them to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. A 32-year-old man who drove the Expedition and his 41-year-old passenger was also hurt in the collision. Both men hail from New York City. EMS treated the two injured men at the scene but did not transport them to the hospital.
