Two vehicle wreck in Hicksville
HICKSVILLE, NY- Patch.com writes that a severe crash occurred in Hicksville this week. One of the vehicles involved in the incident rolled onto its side due to the impact.
Reports indicate that the wreck happened in the evening at the intersection of Pine Street and Plainview Road. The victim in the van that rolled was initially trapped inside of the car but was outside of the vehicle when the responders arrived on the scene.
Crews had to turn the vehicle over to remove it and the debris on the road in order to reopen the intersection.
Images from the scene show a black sedan with severe damage on its front passenger side and a van that was overturned on the roadway. The van appears to have landed on its driver’s side.
No information regarding the cause of the crash has been provided at this time.
About 40 percent of all traffic accidents occur at intersections, including 21.5 percent of deadly wrecks. By their very nature, intersections are places where cars cross paths, and where other road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists, may also be attempting to cross the road. Intersections are, therefore, one of the more complicated situations for a driver to navigate. Of course, when some people disregard traffic laws by violating the speed limit or failing to stop for traffic control devices, the dangers of intersections become much more severe.
In response to the many risks posed by intersections, some safety advocates recommend changing the design of intersections completely and using more roundabouts in place of crossroads. Studies indicate that the rate of crashes declines when roundabouts are used in place of traditional intersections.
