According to a news article posted on DailyVoice.com, two motor vehicles crashed into a Subway restaurant after one motor vehicle lost control, struck a parked motor vehicle, and then caught on fire. The two motor vehicles ended up inside the Long Island Subway, and one of the motor vehicles was split in half, entrapping the driver.
According to a report from the Freeport Fire Department, the accident happened at approximately 10:30 in the evening at the Subway restaurant located on South Main Street in Freeport, New York. As firefighters entered the accident scene, they discovered an overturned car inside the building was on fire and a driver entrapped, according to the Freeport Department Chief Scott R. Braun. Freeport firefighters quickly began to fight the fire while other emergency personnel extricated the driver in one motor vehicle. The report states that the trapped driver was conscious and alert throughout the rescue operation.
Freeport firefighters called the North Bellmore Technical Rescue Team to assist in the accident scene because of the building’s substantial structural damage.
Fortunately, the driver was extricated from their car in about one hour, and they were taken by Nassau County Police Ambulance to a local area trauma center for treatment of unknown injuries. After the driver was removed from their car, the North Bellmore Technical Rescue Team and Freeport Truck worked to remove the vehicles from the restaurant.
