
Verrazzano narrows bridge accident
STATEN ISLAND, NY – June 22, 2020 – According to a news report on SILive.com, there was a serious motor vehicle accident that caused significant delays on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. Today, the city began Phase 2 of the city’s reopening. The news article states that traffic was light prior to the traffic accident. The accident occurred on the Brooklyn-bound side of the bridge leading to significant delays. Emergency responders arrived on the scene at approximately 8:30 in the morning. The New York City Emergency Management urged drivers to consider an alternative route because of the likelihood of “extensive” delays. According to an FDNY spokesperson, the accident injured five individuals. Four of the injured were transported to NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. The other accident victim received treatment at the accident scene. The news report did not report on the severity of the personal injuries sustained by the accident victims taken to NYU Langone Hospital.
Traffic on the Staten Island Expressway was light, although more workers and business owners were being allowed to return to work. All non-essential businesses were closed in March to slow the spread of the coronavirus. Today, New Yorkers are able to shop, visit hair salons, and dine outdoors for the first time in three months.
