Garden State Parkway claims victims
BERGEN, New Jersey — New Jersey State Police are looking for information concerning a fatal accident that occurred on Wednesday morning on the Garden State Parkway in Bergen. State Police say that a 53-year-old woman died when her vehicle was hit by another while in the EZ-Pass express lane. The woman who died was from Hillsdale, N.J., according to a report appearing in the Daily Voice. State Police report that the woman’s car became disabled and was hit by another car. State Police accident investigators are trying to figure out why her vehicle became disabled in the first instance. They suspect, according to reports, that she was involved in a collision that preceded the fatal crash.
New Jersey State Police officers stated they would continue to investigate why the 53-year-old female motorist was sitting in her disabled vehicle when she was hit by another car. The State Police investigators said that a Toyota Rav 4 operated by the woman who died was disabled in a crash in the EZ-Pass express lanes on the southbound side of the Garden State Parkway. State Police noted the area of the accident to be Washington Township. A 40-year-old man driving an Audi A4 from Saddle River, N.J. slammed into the Rav 4. The violent crash killed the woman instantly. The 40-year-old driver of the Audi A4 was hurt in the crash and received a transfer to The Valley Hospital for treatment. Authorities said that his injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.
State Police investigators need to determine why the Toyota Rav 4 stopped in the EZ-Pass express lanes. Investigators believe there was a collision between the Rav 4 and another object before the fatal crash. State Police said that they have not been able to determine if the Rav 4 struck the guardrail or another car hit it and fled the area.
State Police ask people who might have witnessed the events to contact them.
