Bronx Elevator Accident Tragically Kills A Construction Supervisor and Injures a Worker
Fatal Bronx Elevator Accident
Bronx, New York – A news story posted on nydailynews.com reports that New York firefighters responded to an emergency call involving a fatal elevator accident. Law Enforcement authorities state that the accident occurred at a charter school currently under construction and located at Bruckner Boulevard. The news report states that the incident occurred at 8:15 in the morning, and the elevator fell from the top floor to the first floor, causing one fatality and another was severely injured. The elevator accident caused one fatality, and one individual was severely injured in the elevator fall accident. The injured worker was transported to Lincoln hospital and is currently in critical condition.
According to a city Department of Buildings official, The two workers were inside the elevator and were transporting construction debris at the time of the accident. The construction workers at the site were unsure what caused the accident. The news report states that there is a tremendous amount of community support for the families impacted by the tragic accident.
After an accident, the city’s Building Department Shuts down the worksite by placing a “stop-work order.” This allows investigators from the New York Police Department and the Building Department’s Construction Safety, and the Elevator Enforcement Unit’s Construction Safety and Elevator Enforcement Units to investigate the incident.
According to building department spokesperson Andrew Rudansky, construction workers deserve to return home safe from work each night. Rudansky stated that his agency is committed to determining how the accident occurred, look for safety infractions, and hold the person responsible accountable. Rudansky stated that the construction company had work permits for the elevator and a major vertical enlargement of the building.
The building is often referred to as the “History Channel building, “ it’s being converted into a “dream” charter school for grades kindergarten through 12th grade.
The construction site has had several problems since the beginning of construction. Back in December 2019, a construction worker tragically passed away after the man accidentally fell through an opening and fell 20 feet.
This incident is currently under investigation.
