Officials State Revel Mopeds Are 69 Times Deadlier than Citi Bikes

According to an online news story on nypost.com, officials have stated that Revel mopeds been involved in 69 times as many fatal scooter accident deaths per million trips than Citi Bike.
In just the past few months this year, three moped users plus one pedestrian have been fatally injured in Revel-related accidents. Revel’s NYC fatality rate to 1.38 deaths per million trips, according to Polly Trottenberg, the current Transportation Commissioner. Citi Bike has only had two users die in accidents. Citi Bike’s fatal accident rate is .02 deaths per million trips which is substantially lower.
Revel’s scooters were pulled from city streets back in July 2020, after the fatal accidents occurred in that past 10 days. As part of its agreement with New York City officials, Revel added new safety protocols such as mandatory “how-to” operate videos, a requirement that riders snap a “helmet selfie” prior to each ride.
