Recall alert on 2019 Ford Rangers
NEW YORK, N.Y. — Parker Waichman LLP, a national plaintiff’s law firm, has learned that the Ford Motor Company has issued an urgent recall for its 2019 Ford Ranger pickup trucks. The recall relates to a problem with the transmission. Ford will make the necessary repairs and alterations free of charge according to PickupTrucks.com. At this time, approximately 3,000 vehicles suffer from the manufacturing defect to the transmission.
Ford has determined that about 3,000 2019 Ford Rangers sold in the United States have a substantial problem with the shift interlock system.
Additionally, approximately 500 Ford Ranger pickups sold in Canada suffer from the same deficiency. Ford indicates that the affected vehicles were manufactured between June 4, 2018, and January 9, 2019. Car and Driver magazine reports that the shift interlock override system may fail. The failure of this safety system could result in the vehicle slipping out of park and begin to roll. This problem affects vehicles with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The Ford Motor Company believes it has identified the issue. The company determined that there is a defective “bezel” wire in the transmission system. The bezel wire is part of the transmission system that requires the operator to depress the brake while the vehicle is running to move the vehicle’s transmission out of park and into neutral, reverse, or drive.
The Ford Motor Company claims that it has received no reports of injuries or deaths relating to the defective transmissions. Ford is quickly springing into action to prevent injuries or fatalities from defective override systems. Ford also said that its technicians would perform a series of systems checks to determine if the vehicle’s transmission is faulty. The technicians will then replace the defective wiring system or the shift interlock system, free-of-charge to the consumer.
Owners of 2019 Ford Rangers are encouraged to contact their dealer as soon as possible to have their vehicle inspected for the defective transmission.
