Mr. Dyson Died A Protracted And Horrible Death. After a car ran into a utility pole, Ronald Dyson tried to be a Good Samaritan by pulling his car off the road and going to the aid of the other driver. For his efforts, Mr. Dyson died a protracted and horrible death.
The original collision had caused metal cables to fall from the utility pole. When a tractor-trailer operated by Kevin Royster drove into the low-hanging cables, Mr. Dyson was lashed and thrown into the air. The cables were covered with bird droppings which caused Mr. Dyson to develop a flesh-eating infection eventually killed him in September 2003. At the time of his death, Mr. Dyson was 56 years old.
Tractor-Trailer Driver Was Sued
The tractor-trailer driver as well as his employer, Sea Lane Express, was sued. Neither Royster nor the driver of the car that struck the utility pole was ticketed for any traffic infraction. The $2.3 million settlement disposes of the case against the tractor-trailer driver and his employer.
