
Drunk driver hits motorcycle
LINDENHURST, N.Y.— A man from Long Island faces serious criminal charges after allegedly driving drunk and causing a motorcycle accident that resulted in severe personal injuries. According to the Daily Voice from Nassau County, a 29-year-old man from Long Island was driving a 1999 GMC sports utility vehicle west on Hoffman Avenue in Lindenhurst when he crashed the SUV into a motorcycle rider trying to execute a U-turn on Hoffman Avenue. Suffolk police said that the collision with the motorcycle happened around 11:40 p.m. between New York Avenue and Albany Avenue on Hoffman Avenue. Police say that the operator of the GMC took off and left the motorcycle rider on the ground suffering from severe injuries. Suffolk police eventually identified and captured the suspect.
The 29-year-old driver from Lindenhurst faces criminal charges of driving while intoxicated (DUI) and leaving the scene of an automobile accident after causing serious personal injuries. The Daily Voice did not say how the police identified and captured the suspect. The Daily Voice reported that Suffolk police detained the suspect in their First Precinct overnight. The DWI suspect was scheduled to appear in the First District Court located in Central Islip the following day. No information about the court appearance was disclosed.
The Suffolk Police are continuing with their investigation. The investigators impounded the 1999 GMC as well as the 1989 Harley-Davidson motorcycle that was also involved in the crash to perform safety checks.
The motorcycle rider involved in the motorcycle accident was severely injured. Suffolk Police withheld the motorcycle rider’s identity from the media so that the investigators would have an opportunity to notify the family of the motorcycle rider about the crash. Emergency responders transported the severely injured motorcycle rider to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip for emergency treatment. There was no information available concerning the nature of the injuries and whether they are life-threatening.
