Fatal Scooter Accident in the Bronx
BELMONT, THE BRONX – A news article posted on pix11.com states that a man was tragically killed in a scooter accident in the Bronx. According to the NYPD’s report, the scooter operator was thrown off of his motorized scooter after colliding with a van, and then he was run over by the van. The scooter driver sustained life-threatening accident injuries in the incident.
Law enforcement and EMS arrived at the accident scene at approximately 7:15 in the evening. The caller told 911 dispatchers that a motor vehicle hit a person by the intersection of Lorillard Place and East 188th Street in the Belmont district.
According to law enforcement officials’ preliminary investigation report, the 38-year-old scooter driver was riding a gas-powered scooter, heading east on the sidewalk on East 188th Street. Moments later, a Ford Transit van heading south on Lorillard Place entered the intersection while the scooter was progressing into the intersection. According to law enforcement officials, the scooter collided with the Ford Transit van, throwing the scooter driver onto the road.
The Ford Transit van then rolled over the scooter operator, causing life-threatening injuries to his torso. He was transported to a local area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The NYPD reported that the victim’s scooter was removed from the accident scene before police arrived at the scene. The 25-year-old Ford Transit van driver was not hurt, and they remained at the accident scene, authorities reported. The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad announced that their investigation is ongoing. The victim’s name has not been released at this time.
