
Motorcyclist accident on sunrise hwy
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY – August 25, 2020 – According to an online news report from riverheadlocal.com, a man from Flanders was severely injured during an motorcycle accident on the Sunrise Highway in Shirley, New York. According to the Suffolk County Police’s press release, the morning motor vehicle collision occurred between a motorcycle and an SUV.
According to the news report and the Suffolk County Police accident report, a 21-year-old man was traveling on his Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle in an easterly direction along the Sunrise Highway. At approximately 6:30 a.m., the motorcyclist was hit by an eastbound Toyota Sequoia being driven by a 54-year-old from North Babylon, New York. The accident took place about a quarter-mile from William Floyd Parkway.
The accident investigators stated that the Toyota Sequoia hit the 21-year-old victim’s motorcycle while changing lanes on the Sunrise Highway. According to the police, the critically injured motorcyclist was taken to the Long Island Community Hospital located in East Patchogue, New York, to receive medical treatment for his serious injuries. The motorcyclist’s name was not initially released to the public when the police first reported that severe collision.
The news report states that the driver of the Toyota Sequoia did not receive any injuries during the collision. The motorcycle and the Toyota Sequoia were impounded by police and will be examined for safety issues.
