Motorcycle accident
COLLIER COUNTY, FL- Fox4now.com writes that a motorcyclist died in a collision in Collier County, Florida. The victim was identified as a 25-year-old who was traveling eastbound prior to the wreck.
A road maintenance vehicle that was in the eastbound lanes and the two vehicles collided. Responders declared the victim dead at the scene.
In 2018, motorcycle deaths dropped by nearly five percent. Even with that decline, 4,985 people died in these collisions. Statistically, these motorists face a risk of dying that is about 28 times as high as the danger for passenger vehicle occupants. There are steps for motorcyclists to take to help prevent fatal collisions from occurring. For instance, helmets are one good way to lower the number of deadly crashes. Wearing bright clothing also helps other drivers see motorcyclists in the roadway.
Of course, motorcyclists are more vulnerable than other motorists. If another driver causes a crash, the motorcyclist will be the one to suffer the most severe consequences.
Cars that are trying to make left turns create some of the most common and deadliest situations for motorcyclists. In many cases, these drivers simply fail to notice oncoming motorcycles and turn into their path.
No motorcyclist can control other drivers’ behavior. Instead, they have to hope other drivers are paying attention and use extra caution in case others are not. When approaching an intersection, this means being prepared to brake if a car cuts into their path. Slowing down and reducing the severity of a collision may be the only option in an emergency. While avoiding the crash altogether would be ideal, a speed reduction could mean the difference between dying or being injured.
