Motorcycle plowed into pedestrian
QUEENS, New York — A 32-year-old woman died Saturday night around 6:30 when a motorcycle rider plowed into her. The woman who died had just ended her shift at a local supermarket and was walking home when the motorcycle ran her down, according to the Daily Voice. EMS first responders rushed the severely injured woman to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where she passed away from her injuries. The motorcycle operator remained at the scene of the crash and was talking with the police. A New York City Police Department spokesperson said that the accident remains under investigation, and it is too early in the timeline of the investigation to determine whether police will charge the motorcycle rider with a crime or a civil infraction, if anything.
The woman who lost her life in the collision with the motorcycle worked in the produce department at the local Fresh N’ Save supermarket and had left work shortly before she was killed. NYPD officers said that the woman from Glendale tried crossing Myrtle Avenue near the intersection with Summerfield Street when a witness heard a massive bang. The woman looked up from the counter of a nearby store and saw the wreckage in the street. The witness said that the motorcycle was very loud and drew her attention as it passed her shop just before the collision. The witness said she ran outside and was shocked by the overwhelming smell of burning rubber and smoke. She said another person tried to wake the pedestrian, but she did not move in response.
The victim’s colleagues at work described her as a very helpful person and a loving mother. They said she lived about one-half of a mile away from the supermarket and would walk home on her lunch hour to prepare a meal for her 12-year-old daughter. Her colleagues believed that the victim’s husband was supposed to pick her up after work to take her home.
