Motorcycle accident prevention
USA- Wwlp.com writes that in the summer months, many riders take to the road. However, with more motorcyclists out enjoying the warm weather, the risk of crashes increases. Two motorcyclists recently died in crashes just hours apart from one another, leading to reminders about the risks of the road.
One owner of a motorcycle shop issued a warning to drivers about the harm they can cause when they are not responsible on the road. If a driver is not paying attention, they can easily strike a motorcycle. The impact could mean a minor dent in the car the driver is operating, but for a person on a motorcycle, the results could be deadly or severe life-altering injuries.
Some riders travel with passengers, and the owner stated that it is important that passengers use safety gear, not just riders. For the motorcyclist, riding with a passenger may change some things, including the stopping distance. It is vital to understand how to ride safely with a passenger to avoid motorcycle accidents. The added time required to come to a stop can lead to accidents in an emergency.
Fortunately, motorcycle deaths dropped in recent years. In 2018, the number of motorcyclists killed in the United States declined by five percent. However, these riders still represent thousands of traffic deaths each year.
Helmets are a must for rider safety, and motorcyclists should opt for only helmets that meet the standards set by the Department of Transportation. Wearing bright-colored clothing is a good way to lower the chances of being overlooked by a driver in a larger car. Reflective gear and headlights should also be used whenever riding.
