BRONX, NY – September 08, 2020 – According to an online news article posted on NYDailyNews.com, a 19-year-old Florida man was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident caused by an unlicensed driver operating a minivan in the Bronx, New York. The report states that the young man was visiting New York to celebrate his 19th birthday with his family and friends. The young man was operating his new Suzuki motorcycle. According to police statements, the young motorcyclist collided with an unlicensed hit-and-run driver on August 29, 2020. Tragically, the young man sustained severe personal injuries, which led to the man passing away on August 31, 2020.
According to the victim’s father, the hospital conducted several brain death tests, and the victim passed away during the last brain test. The father and his cousin attended a memorial set up on the corner of Cedar and Elm Streets.
The police report states that the minivan driver moved too close to the double, yellow centerline and collided with the motorcyclist. The minivan driver was traveling along the eastbound lane, collided with the motorcycle, and then illegally drove away from the accident scene. The minivan driver, a 28-year-old man, later surrendered to law enforcement. According to the police, the minivan driver was operating the motor vehicle without a driver’s license.
The victim’s father stated that all he knew about the driver was that he had been driving the minivan without a driver’s license. The father stated that he didn’t know what he would say to the driver and didn’t even want to think about that situation.
The minivan driver is facing criminal charges for operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license and leaving the scene of an accident. Also, state attorneys said that they would be looking at possible enhanced criminal charges.
The father stated that the family is devastated, and he shared a dream of riding motorcycles with his son before the tragic accident. He added that the accident ended that dream, and they would never have the chance to ride together.
