CONEY ISLAND, NY- According to Brooklyn.news12.com, the police are looking for a man who was driving an Infinity G35 in connection to the killing of an NYC firefighter. The victim, Fazial Coto 33, was involved in a crash on the Belt Parkway while exiting at Exit 4 on Sunday morning, December 9, 2018.
Reports indicate that Coto exited his vehicle and to look for damage and was hit in the head. The off-duty firefighter was found at about 4:45 in the morning lying by his vehicle, a 2008 Ford Mustang. Coto had suffered facial and head trauma.
The suspect left the scene. The police are seeking the silver Infiniti, which sustained damage to its driver’s side. Police say the vehicle’s license plate is JEA-2402. The car was spotted in New Jersey.
Coto served for three years with Engine 245, located in Coney Island. The firefighter grew up in Flatbush.
Road Rage was defined by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as occurring when drivers carry out “moving traffic offenses so as to endanger other persons or property and assault with a motor vehicle or other dangerous weapon by the operator or passenger of one motor vehicle on the operator or passengers of another motor vehicle.”
Road rage is not the same thing as aggressive driving. Road rage is considered criminal behavior, while aggressive driving, though dangerous, is a seen as a traffic offense.
Road rage may be sparked by something that happens while driving, but it is often the result of stress in other areas of an individual’s life.
One study indicates that 218 people were murdered in road rage incidents over a seven-year period.
