BROOKLYN, NY- According to Foxnews.com, five cars were involved in a collision on the Brooklyn Bridge that killed one individual and injured six others. The fire department was contacted at 7:15 a.m. with reports of the collision and the fire.
The Brooklyn-bound lanes of the bridge, which is where the fire occurred, were closed initially. Later the Manhattan-bound lanes were also shut down, leading to the entire bridge being closed for an hour during the morning rush hour.
According to APNews.com, the victim was identified as 32-year-old Kristopher Hambas of Scarsdale, New York. The incident injured six other people as well.
The crash occurred when a Ford pickup truck that was driving towards Brooklyn crashed into the back of a Nissan. The Nissan was pushed into the median while the Ford struck a Volkswagen and pushed it into a barrier. The Volkswagen then hit an SUV, which struck another SUV, which then struck a Jeep.
Hambas was in the Volkswagen, which caught fire.
