EAST NEW YORK, NY – According to an online news story on NYDailyNews.com, a Brooklyn nurse was tragically killed by a construction truck backhoe as she was walking along a New York crosswalk. According to a Con Ed spokesman, the news report states that the heavy machinery that tragically killed the 61-year-old woman walking on an East New York crosswalk belongs to Vali Industries.
The Brooklyn nurse was purportedly backed over and killed by a construction backhoe as the woman was walking on an East New York crosswalk.
The spokesman stated that Con Ed extends its condolences to the family and friends of the victim. He also stated that the company hired an independent contractor, Vali Industries, to perform construction work for Con Ed at the time of the tragic pedestrian accident and that the tragedy is under investigation.
Surveillance camera video captured the victim’s final moments. The victim was walking on a crosswalk by New Lots Avenue and Van Sinderen Avenue at around 2:20 pm last Friday when the piece of heavy equipment backed into her and killed her.
Family members stated that the victim was on her way to work when she was hit. The victim also had a second job working at a home-care facility in Jamaica, Queens, and she served as a pastor.
According to city Department of Transportation officials, Vali Industries did have valid work permits allowing the company to work on a transformer vault. The fatal accident is currently under investigation.
