Boy Struck by a Firetruck on Staten Island
STATEN ISLAND, NY – According to an online news report on nypost.com, a seven-year-old boy has been critically injured after he was struck by a firetruck on Staten Island, New York. The horrific accident left one firefighter crying while a heartbroken mother searches for answers.
The pedestrian accident happened at Broad Street and Gordon Street in the Stapleton section at approximately 7:20 in the morning last Saturday, the FDNY stated. The young boy was transported to Richmond University Medical Center in critical medical condition. The boy sustained severe head trauma, and he was later air transported to Cohen Children’s Medical Center in Queens, New York.
The boy’s mother was at the scene of the pedestrian accident on Broad Street and Gordon Street in the Stapleton section of Staten Island.
An Island Food Market worker told The Post that the fire truck’s driver was crying after the accident as the young boy was lying on the ground. The witness stated that he was in a store and there were many people were outside near the accident scene. He said that he was trying to see if he knew the child’s parents, but he stated that he had never seen the boy before.
According to the news report, the small boy was critically injured in the collision with the fire truck, and he was bleeding from his head and was not breathing until firefighters gave him oxygen.
The New York Post article states that the young boy and his mom, who were not identified, had just recently moved to Staten Island.
The FDNY did confirm that one of their department’s vehicles was involved in the pedestrian accident, which is currently under investigation by law enforcement. The FDNY did not provide any further comments.
