Bronx, N.Y. — A 52-year-old man who resided in New Rochelle died this week after he was run down while trying to cross a service road in the Bronx, according to The Daily Voice. The vehicle that hit the man who died did not remain at the scene of the collision. Instead, the driver continued. Police have yet to identify the operator and the vehicle involved in the crash. The incident remains under investigation with the New York Police Department’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad.
NYPD received a 911 call around 5:00 a.m. regarding a person down in the road after being hit by a truck. Officers responded to the Bruckner Boulevard Service Road, near the Country Club Road in the Bronx and found the 52-year-old man. Police, the man, was unconscious and was unable to respond to police interaction. Police called for emergency medical services to the scene to assist. Medics evaluated the man and determined he died at the scene of the crash.
Police are searching for answers as to the questions of why the man was crossing the road at that location as well as determining the identity of the operator and vehicle driven at the time of the accident. Investigators said that the man who died parked his car along the side of the service road. He exited his car and started walking across the road from east to west. While the man was trying to cross the road, a large construction vehicle, suspected by police to be a dump truck with a blue container, was driving northerly on Brucker Boulevard Service Road and struck the pedestrian. The vehicle suspected by police of striking the pedestrian continued northerly without stopping or returning to the scene.
Investigators have made no arrests in the investigation and are struggling to identify the driver and the vehicle that hit and killed the pedestrian.
