Woman Killed After Being Dragged by Delivery Vehicle in Long Island Hit and Run Accident

Delivery vehicle pedestrian accident

LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK – As reported in online news articles published by nypost.com and www.nbcnewyork.com, a woman was struck by a delivery driver and dragged for nearly half a mile, sustaining fatal injuries.

A 38-year-old woman sustained fatal injuries in a hit and run accident when she was struck by a delivery van and dragged nearly half a mile.  The afternoon accident happened when a 26-year-old AutoZone delivery driver, behind the wheel of a 2017 Dodge Ram, slammed into two pedestrians – a 38-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man.  While the 38-year-old woman tragically lost her life at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, the 40-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was released from the hospital after receiving treatment.

The 26-year-old AutoZone delivery driver allegedly kept driving on Deer Park Avenue just north of the Southern State Parkway after exiting a North Babylon AutoZone and striking the two pedestrians.  The 38-year-old woman was stuck underneath the work truck and was dragged for approximately half a mile before she rolled to the side of the road as the 26-year-old driver turned right onto Shade Street.  The 38-year-old victim’s belongings, including shoes, sunglasses, a cell phone, and a handbag were all strewn across the street.

The 26-year-old driver continued his route and returned to work.  He was tracked down by local police approximately 1 hour after the hit and run accident happened.  The man was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and will be arraigned at Central Islip’s First District Court.

According to prosecutors, the 26-year-old man fled the scene of the accident so he could “get to his next job”despite being aware that a person was lodged underneath his vehicle.  In a written statement, the man finally stopped to find the 38-year-old woman face down on the ground, and then continued driving so he could continue to his next job.

I would like it known, to those concerned, what a wonderful job Benita Rollis did on my behalf concerning the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund claim. Her skill and compassion made my experience with Parker Waichman one that I will not soon forget. From the very beginning, Benita approached this whole process with the knowledge and logic of a true professional and someone who clearly loves what she does. Every time the VCF threw me a curve ball during this process, Benita knew exactly how to handle it, alleviating all fears. Also, the fact that she made herself so accessible was a major comfort. Parker Waichman is a better law firm because of Benita Rollis. I will most definitely recommend her to all who may be in need of your service. Thank you Benita and thank you Parker Waichman for helping me realize justice and absolutely changing my life as well as restoring my faith in the legal system!
