NEW YORK – A news report posted on radio.com states that a man who was walking along a Bronx expressway was tragically hit and killed by a hit-and-run driver last Saturday night. The NYPD stated that their officers responded to a 911 call at 9:15 PM in which the caller reported that a pedestrian was struck and possibly killed while walking along the Major Deegan Expressway.
When the police officers reached the fatal pedestrian accident scene, the officers discovered a man lying in the middle of the road. The victim had sustained severe trauma to his body and head. Emergency Medical Services responded to the accident and declared the man dead at the accident scene. The victim’s identity was not provided.
According to a preliminary investigation report, the NYPD stated that the pedestrian accident victim was walking northbound in the Major Deegan Expressway’s southbound lanes by Exit 11. Following the collision, the driver in the automobile fled the fatal pedestrian accident scene.
The investigators did not explain why the pedestrian was walking on the roadway. The accident caused a severe traffic jam on the expressway while law enforcement conducted an official accident and criminal investigation.
The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is currently investigating the fatal pedestrian accident. Law enforcement officers did not release a description of the suspect’s motor vehicle. No further details were provided by law enforcement.
