Teen Killed After Leaving Work by Hit-and-Run Motorist
PORT JEFFERSON STATION LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — Suffolk County Police commenced a manhunt for the driver who took off from the spot where a vehicle struck a teenage pedestrian. The teenager died from multiple trauma she suffered in the accident. The young woman had just left her workplace at the end of her shift to purchase a meal. She never made it. According to CBS New York, the deadly crash happened around 9:30 on a Saturday night. Suffolk County police are conducting an exhaustive investigation into who hit the 17-year-old girl and left her to die in the road according to CBS 2.
Suffolk County Police crime scene squad and other investigators swarmed the area of Nesconset Highway and Terryville Road to look for clues in hopes of identifying the fleeing suspect. Suffolk County Police commented that the 17-year-old girl from Selden died at the scene of the incident. They found the crash scene about 300 feet away from an intersection. The crash spread debris across the westbound lanes. Officials closed the westbound lanes of Nesconset Highway to perform their investigation and collect evidence.
The teen who died worked at a nearby Five Guys restaurant. The girl who perished in the crash took leave of her colleagues and announced that she was going to grab something to eat at another location as she left the establishment. The girl’s twin sister, who is also employed at the same Five Guys, helped her manager close up the restaurant for the night.
Police declined to address the case any further. They have refused to give any details about the type of car for which they are searching, who they think might be driving that car and other details that might lead to the identification and subsequent prosecution of the suspect. Authorities reopened Nesconset Highway to traffic again early Sunday morning. All that remains now is a makeshift memorial left in honor of the girl who died.
