Pedestrian Accident Washington Heights
WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, MANHATTAN, NY – According to an online news report on pix11.com, a woman was tragically killed, and three others were injured after they were hit by a motor vehicle. The driver of the vehicle fled the accident scene. Two of the victims were children.
Law enforcement officers responded to an emergency call that reported pedestrians were hit by a vehicle around Audubon Avenue and West 183rd Street in Washington Heights. The responding police officers discovered that there were four pedestrians hurt in the collision. Two of the victims were boys, ages 8 and 9. According to officers at the scene, the 8-year-old suffered serious neck pain and an ankle injury, while the 9-year-old boy suffered head and leg abrasions.
A 28-year-old woman sustained a fractured leg, and the 36-year-old woman suffered severe head trauma. All of the victims were transported to the hospital for treatment of their accident injuries. According to police, the women were transported to a local area hospital where the 36-year-old was tragically pronounced dead three days after the accident.
The investigation ascertained that a gray Mercedes Benz was heading southbound along Audubon Avenue and attempted to turn left when it collided with the four pedestrians trying to cross the street.
The driver of the vehicle did not stay at the scene. The driver, a 21-year-old woman, was arrested and taken into police custody just after the collision. She faces serious criminal charges such as leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury, cops said.
