Fatal Pedestrian Accident on Queens Boulevard
QUEENS, NY – A news report on streetsblog.org states that a motorist tragically struck a 55-year-old man from Queens in broad daylight along a notorious section of Queens Boulevard. The man tragically passed away as a result of the pedestrian accident-related injuries a few days later.
Law enforcement authorities stated that the victim was found lying near the marked crosswalk. The investigators stated that the pedestrian had the green pedestrian signal. Police officers from the 107th Precinct responded to the pedestrian accident, along with Emergency Medical Services, discovered the victim on the roadway. The victim had sustained severe head trauma.
According to the NYPD, the victim was trying to cross the so-called “Boulevard of Death” at approximately 1:40 in the afternoon on Friday. As the victim was crossing the street, a driver in a Hyundai collided with the victim while she was trying to turn left off of 84th Drive. According to the news report, the pedestrian and the driver had a green light. However, New York State Law requires drivers yield to pedestrians. The 33-year-old driver was not criminally charged.
The driver remained at the accident scene while the victim was transported to a local area hospital with life-threatening injuries. The victim was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he tragically passed away a couple of days later.
The victim is the twenty-first pedestrian to die in 2021. The number of fatal pedestrian accidents has dropped slightly. The section of Queens Boulevard where the victim was struck and killed by a motor vehicle is not part of the city’s Vision Zero program, although the area is known as a very hazardous roadway. According to StreetBlog.org and Crashmapper, there were 161 accidents within five blocks in either direction of the accident.
