Pedestrian accident

SLOATSBURG, NY – June 8, 2020 – According to an online news report published on RocklandReport.com, a pedestrian was tragically killed when he was struck by tractor-trailer truck carrying Target Store’s freight.  The fatal accident occurred at approximately 11 p.m., and the accident is under investigation by law enforcement.

According to the online news report, the 45-year-old victim of Waltham, Massachusetts, was driving his Jeep in a southbound direction on the New York State Thruway when he hit a guardrail in the vicinity of mile marker 31.  The news report states that the victim was thrown from his Jeep into the New York State Thruway due to the forces of the accident.  The victim was then struck by a tractor-trailer truck driven by a 63-year-old man from Albany, New York.

The victim was tragically pronounced dead at the scene of the accident upon being examined by the Rockland County Medical Examiner.  The truck driver did not sustain accident-related injuries.  As the scene was being investigated by law enforcement, all traffic was directed to exits before and after the accident scene.  The New York State Police Troop F Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) performed an analysis of the accident scene and performed an accident reconstruction to determine the cause of the accident.  In addition, the New York State Police Troop F Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit (CVEU) responded to the accident scene in order to assist with the crash investigation.  The Spring Hill Emergency Medical Service and Medic 23 also responded to the scene of the accident.

The NYTimes.com reports that the four most common contributing factors in pedestrian accidents in New York are failure to yield, driver inattention or distraction, driving at unsafe speeds, and disregarding traffic signals or signs.  Those four contributing factors were responsible for about 50% of the accident that killed cyclists and pedestrians in 2019.

Last year, in New York State, over 60,000 people were hurt and sustained injuries in traffic accidents.  According to accident data, the number of accident injuries sustained each year is up 10,000 from a yearly average back in 2014.  This means traffic-related accident injuries have climbed by 20 percent in the past six years.

Parker Waichman was extremely professional and helpful in handling our WTC case. Christina Morace, in particular, was amazing in helping us complete all the necessary documents and clearly explaining the process for our claim. Christina did a great job communicating with us via the phone and email. She set the proper expectations and the result was getting our claim approved. Thank you again and we clearly recommend using Parker Waichman.
