Flatbush, Brooklyn, N.Y. — New York Police Department detectives are actively searching for the driver of a flatbed tractor-trailer that collided with a 67-year-old woman commuting to work. The woman who died was in the crosswalk at Flatbush Avenue and Nostrand Avenue when the truck plowed her down. The fatality happened around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, according to ABC 7 New York. The 67-year-old passenger was commuting to her job as a nurse’s aide when she was killed. NYPD continue to pour over evidence searching for clues as to the identity of the driver and the vehicle the driver operated at the time of the crash.
The husband of the woman killed in the collision saw her off for work as she headed out of the door of their home. He will never speak to his wife again. The inconsolable widower told reporters that his wife was working at a nursing facility in Harlem and she was heading to her job when she died. Her morning commute consisted of taking a van service to the intersection of Flatbush and Nostrand Avenues and then taking the subway to her job in Harlem.
WPIX 11 reported that the woman was in the crosswalk of Flatbush Avenue when the semi-truck with flatbed hit her. According to WPIX, police arrived at the scene of the crash and found the woman down in the crosswalk. Medics arrived on the scene and declared her deceased. The woman suffered significant trauma across her body. The suspect vehicle drove away on Flatbush, headed north when it was last seen.
ABC 7 said that the woman who died was only three weeks shy of retirement. She had two adult children and one grandchild. Police have not concluded their investigation and have asked for the public’s help with identifying the driver and vehicle involved.
