SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK – As reported in an online article published by pix11.com, a woman and her boyfriend were struck by an AutoZone work van, and the woman was subsequently dragged for nearly half a mile.

A woman and her boyfriend were struck by a work van in the driveway of a North Babylon AutoZone at the intersection of Commack Road and Route 231.  The 38-year-old Long Island woman was lodged underneath the AutoZone work van, and she was dragged for nearly half a mile before the 26-year-old driver finally stopped.  The 38-year-old woman died from her injuries.  Her 40-year-old boyfriend sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The 26-year-old AutoZone worker was arrested at an AutoZone location and subsequently charged with fleeing the scene of an accident resulting in death and fleeing the scene of an accident resulting in injury.  The man’s employer stated the company is aware of the accident and is cooperating with authorities, offering no additional comments at this time.

Hit and Run Accidents Continue to Claim Innocent Lives

Hit and run accidents injure victims every day in New York, and unfortunately, many of these hit and run accidents result in fatal injuries.  Pedestrians are common victims of hit and run accidents as they are helpless after being struck and injured.  While some hit and run drivers can successfully flee the scene of an accident never to be found again, police are becoming better at tracking down hit and run drivers with the help of witnesses and cameras.

The consequences of hit and run accidents are tragic.  Not only has a person sustained injuries, which are often fatal, but the underlying facts of a person’s injuries are disturbing, which causes unnecessary emotional pain to the victim and his/her loved ones.  If a person is lucky to survive a hit and run accident, he or she may require substantial medical treatment and therapy to recover fully. Deceased victims will never have a chance to recover or face the hit and run driver responsible for causing the accident.

Christina Morace my Paralegal at Parker Waichman’s Long Island office successfully obtained not one but two World Trade Center Victim Compensation awards for myself. She was knowledgeable, always there for me and fought for the compensation I deserved for working at Ground Zero and then unfortunately getting two 911 related ailments. I will highly recommend Christina to anyone who has to go through the Victim’s Compensation process.
