BENSONHURST, Brooklyn, N.Y. — A Mack truck struck and killed an 87-year-old man as he attempted to cross a Bensonhurst Street. First responders raced the severely injured man to a local hospital, but their efforts were in vain. The man died at the hospital. According to bklyner.com, the fatal collision happened on Thursday, September 27, 2018, around 2:50 in the afternoon. The New York Police officers assigned to the case say their investigation remains open and active at this time.*
Carmine Bruzzese, 87, from Bensonhurst, died while trying to cross 86th Street, from north to south in the crosswalk. Mr. Bruzzese walked in front of the Mack truck that was stopped at a red light. The light turned green while Mr. Bruzzese was in the crosswalk immediately in front of the semi. The driver of the Mack truck, a 43-year-old man, proceeded forward and ran down Mr. Bruzzese.
The driver stayed at the crash site. First responders descended on the intersection of 86th and 21st Avenue. Emergency Medical Service personnel transported the victim to NYU Langone Hospital. Attending physicians there pronounced Mr. Bruzzese dead from his injuries. There was no word on whether the Medical Examiner accepted the case for an autopsy.
The investigating officers did not say whether they would press charges against the driver of the Mack truck. Additionally, the police did not say whether they would issue a citation to the Mack truck driver for any alleged infractions.
