Medford pedestrian hit and run
MEDFORD, NY – An online news article published by patch.com reports that a 30-year-old homeless woman was struck and seriously injured by a pickup truck that fled the scene of the accident.
A 30-year-old woman suffered serious injuries in an early morning Medford accident on Norfleet Lane. According to police, a dark-colored pickup truck struck the woman as she was walking across the street. The woman was found lying in the street when police arrived. The woman was taken to Long Island Community Hospital for treatment.
Police have not found the driver of the pickup truck who fled the scene of the accident. If found, the driver will likely face multiple criminal charges, including, but not limited to, fleeing the scene of an accident where a person has sustained injuries, vehicular assault, reckless driving, and other traffic violations which an investigation may uncover.
Can Hit-and-Run Accident Victims Receive Compensation for Their Injuries?
The process for seeking and obtaining compensation following a traffic accident becomes tricky when the at-fault driver(s) cannot be found. If an accident involves two or more vehicles, an injured driver or passenger’s own policy may provide compensation through an uninsured motorist policy if the at-fault driver is uninsured.
However, when the victim is a pedestrian or bicyclist, finding an insurance policy that will provide coverage for any injuries can be difficult, and in some cases, impossible. Whether the 30-year-old homeless woman has any insurance coverage is unclear, and given the woman is homeless, she may not have any insurance policy. For a pedestrian or bicyclist who has a homeowners’ insurance policy or renter’s policy, some coverage may be available. In other cases, the best step for hit-and-run accident victims is to speak with an attorney.
