Pedestrian accident in Suffolk county
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK – According to online news articles published by dailyvoice.com and longisland.news12.com, a 17-year-old Selden girl was involved in 2 drunk driving accidents, the first of which was a hit-and-run accident resulting in severe injuries to a pedestrian.
Suffolk County Police report that a 17-year-old Selden girl was involved in 2 early-morning accidents after leaving her aunt and uncle’s home where she attended a cousin’s graduation party the night before. The girl was intoxicated at the time of both accidents.
The first accident happened on Ashford Drive in Bohemia. The 17-year-old girl was driving her 2005 Nissan Altima on Ashford Drive when she left the roadway, hit a mailbox, and traveled across a lawn before hitting an 80-year-old Bohemia woman who was walking in the street.
The girl fled the scene of the accident, and approximately 30 minutes later, she was involved in a second accident in Nesconset at the intersection of Route 347 and Route 25. Fourth Precinct officers arrived at the scene of the second accident and determined that the girl’s vehicle had more damage than what was sustained in the Nesconset accident.
Fifth Squad detectives were informed that the girl had been involved in a prior hit-and-run pedestrian accident, and police were able to link the girl to both accidents.
After failing a field sobriety test, according to prosecutors, the Selden teenager was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury. She was held at the Fourth Precinct overnight and arraigned the following day, and her Nissan was impounded as evidence.
The 50-year-old uncle and owner of the home where the 17-year-old girl had attended the graduation party the night before was charged with violating Suffolk County’s social host law. He is set to be arraigned at a later date.
The 80-year-old Bohemia woman was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where she is in critical condition from her injuries.
