Pedestrian accidents in nyc
A news story on nypost.com reports that a woman was severely injured after being struck by an SUV and then impaled on a metal fence. NYPD officers reported that the pedestrian crash occurred in the Bronx last Friday night. The report states that the victim, a 59-year-old woman, was walking down Bronxdale Avenue near Pelham Parkway just after 6:30 PM when she was hit by a gray Lexus SUV. The SUV then pushed the victim into a metal fence in which she was impaled as the SUV continued moving forward until it crashed into a building. Tragically, the victim tragically died of her crash-related injuries.
The stay-at-home mom of three children was walking to pick up a pizza for her family when she was struck by the SUV. She was transported to Jacobi Hospital, where she tragically passed away during emergency surgery. The woman’s daughter called her a very good and sweet woman who did not deserve to be killed a few steps away from her home.
The SUV, which hopped over a street curb, pushed the victim into a metal fence, pushing a metal fence spike through her body. The husband of the victim, who was inside the family’s apartment, rushed to the street after he heard the crash. He found another man inside the building holding the victim until EMS arrived. He knew his wife of 40 years would not survive the collision.
The good Samaritan who assisted the victim after the collision is an Uber driver. He lives across the street, and he helped the victim off of the fence and tried to reassure the victim that she would be okay.
According to the victim’s husband, his wife’s injuries were too extensive for her to survive.
A nurse who was walking by and witnessed the SUV lose control and crash into the victim stated that the victim suffered a large gash on her elbow, and blood was pouring out from the victim’s stomach. She told the people in the area not to move the victim because she knew the victim had internal bleeding.
Outside the apartment building, family and friends lit candles and placed flowers at the scene of the crash.
According to the SUV driver, he swerved to avoid crashing into a van that was stopped at the intersection of Cruger and Bronxdale avenues. He was also transported to Jacobi and is listed in stable medical condition. NYPD officers reported that the crash seemed to be accidental. No criminal charges have been filed at this time. The fatal pedestrian crash is currently under investigation. However, the news report states that the SUV has “168 violations, including 20 for speeding in school zones.”
