According to the NYPD Highway Patrol, the accident happened on Atlantic Avenue between Nevins Street and 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. The fatal pedestrian accident happened on Sunday, November 22, 2020. The NYPD Highway Patrol is alleging that the victim was crossing mid-block on Atlantic Avenue by Third Avenue in the Boerum Hill area at approximately 7:45 p.m. As the victim was crossing the street, a red Hyundai Sonata traveling westbound along Atlantic Avenue collided with the victim.
An eyewitness to the pedestrian accident as it happened stated that she saw the victim crossing the street at the moment of the collision. The witness stated that the victim was halfway across the street when she was hit, and the accident happened so quickly she did not have time to warn the victim of the car. The witness stated that the accident impact was so severe that she knew the victim had passed away.
The driver, a 49-year-old man, stayed at the scene of the accident and cooperated with the investigation of the deadly accident. The news story states that the man will likely be charged with criminal charges, including driving a vehicle without a license. Law enforcement is also investigating whether the driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident. The driver’s name was not made public at this time.
According to neighbors interviewed in the news report, the victim resided at the Muhlenberg Residence, a single-room apartment building on Atlantic Avenue. The apartment building used to be a homeless shelter.
