Vehicle crashes front doors of restaurant
NASSAU COUNTY, Florida — One person sustained injuries after driving a car into a restaurant in Fernandina Beach outside of Jacksonville, Fl. The injury-causing accident happened at around 11:00 a.m. according to First Coast News. Authorities did not say whether the injured person was the driver of the car that flew through the front doors or was someone inside the small restaurant. Authorities did not indicate whether they will pursue criminal charges in the case. There was no update available concerning the medical condition of the injured person.
Law enforcement officials and other first responders released very little information about the accident on Thursday in Fernandina Beach. The damaged restaurant is located at 5517 South Fletcher Avenue in Fernandina Beach. There was no information available if the restaurant was occupied at the time of the crash. Authorities did say that a small silver sports utility vehicle crashed through the front glass doors of the grill, drove through the entire space, and came to rest in the back of the restaurant.
Pictures posted on the Facebook account of Nassau County Fire-Rescue 3101 well illustrate the damage. The photos show the SUV deep into the restaurant after going through the front doors. The parking spaces in front of the establishment appear to be at a 45-degree angle to the front of the grill and are equipped with a parking bumper. However, the car seems to have ridden over the parking bumper and gone straight through the doors instead of at a 45-degree angle to the front of the restaurant. Authorities do not know at this point why or how the driver managed to drive into the building.
The Nassau County Fire-Rescue personnel responded to the scene and transported one person to a local hospital. First responders did not list the medical condition of the person transported.
